VILLA LE SCALE - Capri
If you climb the stairs, between the hydrangea and wisteria vines, you'll enter a true Caprese villa, not known by many. With a highly regarded history: in a neoclassic style, built by the Barons Monti della Corte, who began construction in the 1700's. Villa le Scale is located near the house turned museum of the Swedish author Axel Munthe, in Anacapri, at the heart of the island above the maddening crowd but still overflowing with charm. Owned by Anna Maria Coronato, architect and interior designer, who one year ago transformed the family house into a guest villa with just seven rooms in shades of lilac and pastel, a pool that is definitely "the most delightful on the island" and a garden filled with roses, magnolia, hibiscus and passion flowers. The bedrooms in this "home away from home" bear the names, Artist, Venetian, Voyager, and Collector. In accordance to the themes, there are ethnic furnishings, a Turkish bathe, decorations by contemporary artist Enrica Capone and eighteenth century Neapolitan School paintings. The overall impression is of finding yourself in a small charming oasis. Where, between the vinecovered columns, you feel a sense of nostalgia for nearby Pompeii.
Villa le Scale, Anacapri, isola di Capri (tel. 081.8382190, www.chicretreats.com) double room with breakfast from 280 €.\
