"Simply Outstanding"
Date: August 01, 2006

My wife and just returned from a wonderful 2 week European vacation, that started in St. Tropez (Chateau de la Messardiere), continued in Eze (Chateau de la Chevre D'or), and ended in Capri at this truly magnificent hotel / villa.

We are a 40 something couple who have been fortunate enough to travel frequently, and one of the things we really enjoy about the travel experience, is looking forward to returning back to a beautiful hotel each evening.

We booked the Messardiere on a reccomendation from a friend, and the Chevre D'or, as we had been there a few years ago for dinner, and promised ouselves we would return 1 day. While they are both fine quality hotels, some minor issues and/or irritants occurred at both of these hotels, which can usually make a difference, when one decides if they want to return. Especially at those prices!

In the case of Villa Le Scale, we had decided to visit Capri for the first time, and while all our friends who had been there before, reccomended that we stay in Capri as opposed to AnaCapri, we decided to give Le Scale a go, based on the reviews that we read on this site. It sounded almost to good to be true!
Well, it is all that, and then some!

As expressed in almost every previous review, from the moment you enter the gates, all the stress of travel seems to evaporate.
The setting is truly magnificent, the photographs on the web simply cannot do it justice. We were greeted by Vincent the GM, with glasses of Proseco, snacks and cold towels. We were shown our room, the Voyageur suite which came exactly as advertised. Beautifully appointed, immaculate with a wonderful terrace. A refreshing fruit plate was waiting for us as well. These were the first of many complimentary offerings throughout our stay, which is really a wonderful touch, when you compare this to the situation at other hotels (Messardiere and Chevre Dor) where a 20 Euro poolside cocktail is the norm.

The next morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the garden.
After the first day, my wife commented that this was the first place we'd ever been, where she did'nt feel it necessary to lock our door. In this day and age, that's saying something.

Throughout, the service was some of the best we've ever experienced. The staff, Bhindu,Gaetano and a lady whose name escapes me, were always there when needed. It was as though they couldn't do eneough.
Vincent was exceptional. He produced and directed our stay. He arranged EVERYTHING! The restaurant reservations (we particularly enjoyed Aurora, Da Paulina and Da Giorgio), the fantastic motor boat we took to Amalfi, Ravello to Positano, to Nerano for lunch. It was truly unforgettable, and all his advice was spot-on.

As for the island of Capri and its people, it is easy to see why so many return year after year. They are warm, genuine and extremely inviting. I will always remember my morning runs along via Mighliera (a reccomendation from Ana-Maria the owner) past the grapevines and beautiful scenery. All the while, somehow finding the breath to respond to all the natives I passed along the way with a "Buon Giorno".

If you are undecided about AnaCapri as opposed to Capri, here is my feeling. If you want the action, the crowds, and the excitement some of the time, but not ALL the time, then stay in AnaCapri. Capri is only a 3 - 5 minute cab ride away when you want that experience, and yet, seemingly much farther away when you want to enjoy the truly beautiful and tranquil surroundings of Anacapri.

It is clearly evident that Ana-Maria is truly passionate about this fantastic hotel. Not only by how wonderfully furnished it is, or by how beautifully maintained it is, but even more so by how carefully she has chosen to staff her villa. People DO make the difference!
In some way, I believe, this rubs off on her guests, as my wife and I find ourselves with a true passion to return as soon as possible to unforgettable Capri and Villa Le Scale!
