"A great hotel experience!"

Hotel Villa le Scale, this was by far and away the best accommodations we had in Italy; possibly the best I have ever experienced (which is high-praise since xxx , xxx , xxx are rated 5-star hotels. Also while on business I have stayed in some of the top hotels throughout the United States and Canada.). The place is owned by a supposedly-noted 19th century art dealer and appraiser- the fact is there are interesting works throughout, and I came up with reasons to go to the main building as much as I could to gaze at the art. The general manager has created the best work of art there with the night-time lighting of the villa. Le Scale is incredibly comfortable, all systems worked like a clock, and the people there provided great service in somewhat of an understated way, unlike many of the 5-star hotel personnel who "sir'ed and prego'd" me to death, and oftentimes came across as obsequious.
The down-side of the Villa le Scale was it was so pleasant and comfortable, that it was hard to get motivated to leave for some of the other great parts of Capri island. I found the town of Capri a bit like Rodeo Dr., Beverly Hills; also, Capri was incredibly crowded during the day, because of the influx of tourists from Naples, Sorrento, Positano and other surrounding resorts descending on this beautiful island like locusts.
The highlight of our trip was a motorboat ride around the island. Vincent, the general manager of Villa le Scala [probably a large factor in the Villa le Scale being such arranged the trip for us after hours (after the last ferry went to the mainland). The motor boat tour service he recommends has high-school kid drivers along with the owner. Our driver (a high-school kid was outstanding) -- very responsible, charismatic, patient-- he took us to the best swimming spots without us ever feeling at all rushed. Because we did our boat trip after the tourists left, there were no longer the hordes of motorboats around the island. [A boat trip around Capri, which included visits to the various grottos is considered one the tour book things to do. It indeed exceed its billing when everyone was not doing it concurrently with us--- an after hours boat trip alone is a good reason to spend at least one night in Capri even if one is a Positano junkie like us.]
